PoE is a technology that provides power and data transmission through network cables. Only one network cable is needed to connect to a PoE camera point, without the need for additional power wiring.
The PSE device is the device that supplies power to the Ethernet client device, and is also the manager of the entire POE power over Ethernet process. The PD device is the PSE load that receives power, that is, the client device of the POE system, such as IP phone, network security camera, AP, personal digital assistant or mobile phone charger and many other Ethernet devices (in fact, any device with power less than 13W can obtain corresponding power from the RJ45 socket). The two establish information connections based on the IEEE 802.3af standard regarding the connection status, device type, power consumption level, and other aspects of the receiving end device PD, and use this as a basis for PSE to power the PD through Ethernet.
When choosing a PoE switch, the following points need to be considered:
1. Single port power
Confirm the single port power meet the maximum power of any IPC attached to the switch or not. If yes, select the switch specifications based on the maximum power of the IPC.
The power of a regular PoE IPC does not exceed 10W, so the switch only needs to support 802.3af. But if the power demand of some high-speed ball machines is about 20W, or if the power of some wireless access APs is higher, then the switch needs to support 802.3at.
The following are the output powers corresponding to these two technologies:
2. Maximum power supply of the switch
requirements, and consider the power of all IPC during design. The maximum output power supply of the switch needs to be greater than the sum of all IPC's power.
3. Power supply type
There is no need to consider using an eight core network cable for transmission.
If it is a four core network cable, it is necessary to confirm whether the switch supports Class A power supply or not.
In short, when choosing, you can consider the advantages and costs of various PoE options.
